Terms of Service
Welcome to Inner Universe. These Terms explain what you can expect from us, what we expect from you, and how creative fiction on the Service works. Please read them carefully.
1. Acceptance of these Terms
These Terms of Service ("Terms") are a binding agreement between you and Inner Universe ("we", "us", or "our") governing your access to and use of the Inner Universe website, applications, and related services (together, the "Service"). By creating an account, ticking the agreement box at sign-up, or otherwise using the Service, you accept these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
We may update these Terms from time to time. When we make material changes we will post the revised Terms with a new effective date and, where appropriate, notify you in the app or by email. Continued use of the Service after a change takes effect means you accept the revised Terms.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 18 years old, and at least the age of majority where you live, to use the Service. The Service may contain mature themes and is not directed at minors. By using the Service you represent that you meet this requirement. We may suspend or terminate accounts we reasonably believe belong to someone under 18.
You may not use the Service if you are barred from doing so under the laws of your country or if we have previously suspended or removed you from the Service.
3. Your account
You need an account to use most of the Service. Authentication is handled by our identity provider. You are responsible for keeping your login credentials secure and for everything that happens under your account. Tell us promptly if you believe your account has been compromised.
You may create one or more personas within your account. Personas are profiles that describe how you present yourself to characters; they are part of your account and remain subject to these Terms.
4. The Service is fiction, powered by AI
Every character on Inner Universe is an artificial intelligence. Characters are generated by large language, image, voice, and video models. They are not people, they are not conscious, and nothing they say is a statement of fact, professional advice, or the view of Inner Universe.
Characters may be inspired by works of fiction, by public figures, or by archetypes, but every portrayal on the Service is a fictional, AI-generated interpretation. A character named after or resembling a real person is not that person, does not speak for them, and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to them. Conversations, relationships, scenes, and memories within the Service are role-play and creative fiction, and must be understood as such.
AI output can be wrong, inconsistent, or inappropriate despite our safeguards. Do not rely on the Service for medical, legal, financial, safety, or mental-health decisions. If you are in crisis, contact local emergency services or a crisis line.
5. Fan fiction, parody, and characters based on existing works or public figures
We built the Service to support creative expression, including fan fiction and parody. Subject to the rules in this section and in Section 7, you may create and interact with characters that are:
- Based on characters from existing books, games, anime, film, television, comics, or other fictional works (for example, a shinobi from a popular manga).
- Based on public figures, such as politicians, celebrities, athletes, or historical figures, in a clearly fictional, satirical, or parodic context.
- Original characters you invent yourself.
Characters of this kind are transformative, non-commercial fan works and parody created by users. They are fictional AI portrayals only. They are not created, licensed, sponsored, or endorsed by the rights holders of the underlying works or by the people they reference, and the Service does not claim any such affiliation. All trademarks, character names, and likenesses remain the property of their respective owners.
When you create a character based on an existing work or a real person you agree that: (a) the character will be presented and understood as a fictional AI, never as the real person or an official product; (b) you will not use the character to make statements that a reasonable person would take as genuine factual claims about a real person; (c) you will not use a real person's likeness to create sexually explicit content, to harass, defame, or intimidate, or to deceive others into believing the content is authentic; and (d) you will respect any takedown request we receive from a rights holder or the person depicted, as described in Section 9.
We may remove or restrict any character, or make it private, if we believe it crosses these lines or if we receive a valid complaint, even if you believe your use is lawful.
6. Your content and your license to us
"Your Content" means everything you submit to the Service: character definitions, personas, messages, instructions, uploaded images, clips, backgrounds, voice recordings, and anything else you provide. You keep ownership of Your Content.
So that we can operate the Service, you grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, reproduce, process, adapt, transmit, and display Your Content for the purpose of providing, securing, and improving the Service. This includes sending Your Content to the third-party AI model providers we rely on to generate responses, images, voices, and video.
If you choose to make a character, expression, background, or music link public or discoverable, you additionally grant every other user of the Service a non-exclusive license to view and use that item within the Service, including creating their own private fork of a public character. Making something public is your choice; uploaded portraits and clips stay private unless the Service states otherwise.
You are responsible for Your Content. You represent that you have the rights needed to submit it and grant the licenses above, and that it complies with these Terms.
7. Acceptable use
You may not use the Service to create, request, share, or attempt to generate any of the following:
- Sexual content involving minors in any form, including characters who are described, drawn, or presented as under 18, regardless of claimed age or fictional framing. This is a zero-tolerance rule and violations are reported to the relevant authorities.
- Sexually explicit content depicting real, identifiable people without their consent, including public figures.
- Content that promotes or incites violence, terrorism, or hatred against people on the basis of race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or similar characteristics.
- Content intended to harass, threaten, stalk, blackmail, or defame a real person, or that is presented as a genuine factual statement about a real person.
- Content that gives operational instructions for serious harm, such as creating weapons capable of mass casualties, or that facilitates fraud, malware, or unauthorized access to systems.
- Impersonation of any person or organization for deceptive purposes, or any attempt to pass AI-generated content off as authentic recordings or statements of a real person.
You also may not: scrape, crawl, or bulk-download the Service; reverse-engineer, probe, or interfere with the Service or its safeguards; attempt to extract our prompts, model configurations, or another user's private data; share, resell, or automate access to your account; circumvent rate limits, token metering, or moderation; or use the Service in violation of any applicable law.
Mature and adult themes between consenting adults are permitted within the limits above. We use automated and human moderation to enforce these rules and may remove content, restrict features, or terminate accounts at our discretion.
8. Tokens, subscriptions, and payments
Some features consume tokens. Tokens are a usage allowance, not currency; they have no cash value, cannot be transferred, and cannot be redeemed for money. A subscription grants a monthly token allowance that resets each billing period and does not roll over. Top-up packs add tokens that do not expire while your account remains in good standing.
Payments are processed by our payment provider. By subscribing you authorize recurring charges at the stated price until you cancel. You can cancel at any time from your billing settings; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period and you keep access until then. Except where required by law, payments are non-refundable, including for unused tokens.
We may change prices, allowances, or plans. Changes to a recurring subscription will apply from your next billing period after we notify you.
9. Copyright complaints and takedown requests
If you believe content on the Service infringes your copyright, or depicts you in a way that violates these Terms, email oyy26@mails.tsinghua.edu.cn with: a description of the work or likeness at issue; the location of the content on the Service; your contact information; a statement that you have a good-faith belief the use is not authorized; and a statement, under penalty of perjury, that the information is accurate and that you are the rights holder or authorized to act for them.
We will review valid notices promptly and may remove or disable access to the content. We may forward your notice to the user who posted it. Users who repeatedly infringe will have their accounts terminated.
10. Our intellectual property
The Service, including its software, design, branding, prompts, and the Inner Universe name and logo, is owned by Inner Universe or its licensors and protected by intellectual-property laws. These Terms do not give you any right to use our branding or to copy the Service.
Subject to these Terms, we grant you a limited, revocable, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the Service for personal, non-commercial purposes.
11. Termination
You may stop using the Service and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access at any time, with or without notice, if we believe you have violated these Terms, if required by law, or if continuing to provide the Service to you creates risk for us or others.
On termination your license to use the Service ends. We may delete Your Content after a reasonable period, subject to our Privacy Policy and any legal retention obligations. Sections that by their nature should survive termination, including those on content licenses for public items already forked by others, disclaimers, limitation of liability, and disputes, survive.
12. Disclaimers
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent permitted by law we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of harmful components, or that AI output will be accurate, appropriate, or safe.
The Service is a creative and entertainment product. It is not a substitute for human relationships, professional care, or emergency services.
13. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Inner Universe and its officers, employees, contractors, and suppliers will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, profits, or goodwill, arising out of or related to the Service, even if advised of the possibility. Our total liability for all claims related to the Service is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose or fifty US dollars.
Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so some of the above may not apply to you.
14. Indemnity
You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Inner Universe from any claims, damages, and expenses, including reasonable legal fees, arising from Your Content, your use of the Service, or your breach of these Terms.
15. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which Inner Universe is established, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Before filing a claim, you agree to contact us at oyy26@mails.tsinghua.edu.cn and attempt in good faith to resolve the dispute informally for at least thirty days. Any claim must be brought in the courts of that jurisdiction, and you consent to their jurisdiction, except that either party may seek injunctive relief in any competent court.
16. General
These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy, are the entire agreement between you and us about the Service. If any part of these Terms is found unenforceable, the rest remains in effect. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver. You may not assign these Terms; we may assign them in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets.
